Here are some fun dental facts you may not know...

Our bodies are wonderous and magnificent and our teeth are no exception. Did you know that tooth enamel is the hardest substance in the human body? Despite its strength, enamel is not invincible and can be eroded by acidic foods, sugary drinks and poor dental hygiene. Interestingly, enamel cannot regenerate on it’s own once it’s worn away because it doesn’t contain living cells. This highlights the importance of brushing and flossing regularly, as well as visiting your dental hygienist for your check-ups and cleanings to keep that protective layer intact. In fact, a surprising tip is that you should wait at least 30 minutes after consuming acidic foods or drinks before brushing your teeth, as brushing your teeth can accelerate enamel erosion.

Did you know that teeth are unique? Just like fingerprints, no two sets are the same. Your teeth are unique to you, which is why dental records are often used to identify individuals.

Another fun dental fact: your mouth produces over 24 000 liters of saliva in a lifetime – enough to fill two swimming pools! Saliva is often underrated, but it plays a crucial role in your oral health. I helps neutralize acids in the mouth, wash away food particles, and fight off germs.

If you ever wondered why your tongue can move so skillfully, it’s because it’s made up of eight different muscles. These muscles never get tired, which is why you can talk, eat, and swallow without a second thought.

Smiling is Contagious! Smiling not only makes you feel happier but also can improve your immune system. If that isn’t reason enough to smile, studies show that smiling is contagious and can lift the mood of those around you!

Remember taking care of your mouth is not only essential for a bright smile, but also for your overall health, as oral health is closely linked to conditions like heart disease and diabetes.
